Motor shaft misalignment can cause a number of problems, primarily in the following areas:
1. Bearing damage
- Motor shaft misalignment subjects the bearings to additional axial forces, leading to accelerated wear. Over time, components such as the rolling elements and inner and outer rings may develop fatigue cracks or spalling, shortening the bearing’s service life.
- In severe cases, the bearings may suddenly seize, preventing the motor from operating normally and potentially causing serious failures such as motor burnout.

2. Impact on Motor Performance
- Shaft misalignment alters the uniformity of the air gap between the motor’s stator and rotor, causing uneven magnetic field distribution. This reduces the motor’s efficiency and power factor. The motor’s output power decreases, while energy consumption increases.
- Additionally, shaft misalignment may cause increased vibration and noise, affecting the motor’s operational stability and reliability.
3. Damage to the Motor Shaft and Other Components
- Significant axial forces may cause the motor shaft to bend, deform, or even break. This is particularly severe in high-speed motors, where shaft deformation is more pronounced and poses a greater risk to the motor.
- Furthermore, misalignment may damage components such as the motor end caps and fan, impairing heat dissipation and further increasing the risk of motor failure.
